Kreate Oy – Kirjalansalmi bridge (ongoing)
Mt180 The alliance contractor implementing the renewal of the Kirjalansalmi and Hessundinsalmi bridges has chosen Steel Group Pohjanmaa Oy to supply the steel structure of the new Kirjalansalmi bridge. The total weight of the steel bridge is almost 3,000 t. The subcontracting agreement was signed on 21 December 2022.
“The choice of a steel structure supplier is significant for the Kirjalansalmi bridge project. In terms of schedule, it is one of the most critical entities in terms of the completion of the bridge, so that the new bridge will be completed on time at the end of 2025. In addition to high-quality delivery, domesticity is emphasized in the whole: a domestic workshop manufactures the structure from domestic steel,” says project manager Janne Wikström from Väylävirasto.
“We have had very constructive and successful contract negotiations and I am really satisfied that now we can work together on the technically demanding and challenging steel structure of the Kirjalansalmi bridge,” continues project manager Timo Hirvasmaa from Kreate Oy.
The Kirjalansalmi bridge is a type of cable-stayed cable-stayed bridge with a reinforced concrete cover and a tensioned continuous concrete girder bridge for the access bridge. The steel structure is indeed the largest single subcontract of the entire project.
“We are proud of the trust in Steel Group Pohjanmaa Oy for this demanding project. The contract is a very big deal for us, and the project will employ us significantly in the next two years. The steel contract for the Kirjalansalmi bridge is the largest single Finnish bridge project in the history of the engineering workshop, which has been manufactured in Oulu in more than 40 years, both in terms of tonnage and the amount of the contract,” says CEO Henrik Kiviniemi of Steel Group Pohjanmaa Oy.
